What SMP is, in one paragraph

Tiny pigment dots are placed in the upper layer of the scalp, each one mimicking a hair follicle. Seen together, they read as short, dense hair or as more density among the hair you still have. There is no surgery, nothing grows, and the result is visible immediately.

What it costs in Sweden

Swedish studios normally price by the area treated rather than per hour. Our own starting prices are SEK 2,500 for scars and small areas, SEK 6,000 for a hairline and front section, and SEK 10,000 for a full scalp. Expect a free consultation to be included; if a studio charges for the consultation, ask why.

Be careful with prices that look far below the rest of the market. SMP is slow, detailed work, and the cost reflects the hours involved. Cheap work is usually cheap because it is fast.

How to judge an artist before you book

  • Ask for healed results. Photos taken right after a session always look dense. Ask for results at 6–12 months.
  • Ask to see cases like yours. A shaved look is very different work from density on thinning hair, or a scar.
  • Ask about the hairline. It should be drawn and agreed with you before any pigment is placed.
  • Ask what the price includes. How many sessions, and what a touch-up costs later.
  • Ask about hygiene and pigments. Single-use needles, and pigments made for scalp work.

How many sessions, and how long it lasts

Most people need 2–3 sessions spaced 7–14 days apart. The pigment lightens gradually over the years; a touch-up after roughly 2–3 years refreshes it. How fast it fades depends on your skin, your lifestyle and how much sun your scalp gets.

When SMP is the wrong choice

If you want hair you can grow long and style, SMP will not give you that – a hair transplant is the only option that does. If your hair loss is sudden or patchy and has not been investigated, see a doctor first. And if you are not willing to keep your hair short for a shaved look, the result will not sit right. Ray does your treatment

I work exclusively with Scalp Micropigmentation. My focus is results that blend into your own hair and skin tone, rather than results that announce themselves.

Most of my clients come from western Sweden, but some travel further. If you are planning a trip to Gothenburg for treatment, tell me and we will plan the sessions around your travel.

FAQ

Questions about SMP in Sweden

Is SMP available in Sweden?

Yes. Scalp micropigmentation is offered in most larger Swedish cities. We are based in Gothenburg and treat clients from across western Sweden and beyond.

What does SMP cost in Sweden?

Prices vary by studio and by the size of the area. Ours start at SEK 2,500 for scars and small areas and SEK 10,000 for a full scalp, with the consultation included.

Is SMP regulated in Sweden?

SMP is performed as a cosmetic pigmentation treatment. Swedish rules for hygiene and pigment safety apply, and the local municipality supervises businesses that pierce the skin. Ask any studio how they handle hygiene and which pigments they use.

Do I need to speak Swedish?

Not with us. The consultation and treatment can be entirely in English.

How do I choose an artist?

Look at healed results, not photos taken straight after a session. Ask to see cases similar to yours, ask how many sessions are included in the price, and make sure the hairline is designed with you before anything is pigmented.

Can I combine SMP with a hair transplant?

Yes. SMP is often used to add density between transplanted hairs, or to camouflage donor-area scars once they have healed, usually at least six months after surgery.
